Inspired by the ocean! The celestial overlay in this piece charts the stars in the night sky on October 18, 1972... on that day, the House & Senate overrode President Nixon’s veto of the Clean Water Act, prohibiting the discharge of oil or hazardous substances into most U.S. waters, including the ocean.
In January of this year, the current administration declared that a significant proportion of the streams, lakes, bays, lagoons, wetlands, headwaters, and more across the nation no longer count as “waters of the United States.” For those excluded waterways, federal protections under the Clean Water Act will no longer apply, and few protections will remain to stop polluters from dumping toxic byproducts into our waters.
